A certified PROMPT clinician will use their holistic assessment to enable them to understand and analyse the complex interaction between the individual’s, Physical-Sensory Domain, Cognitive-Linguistic Domain, and Social-Emotional Domain. This is extremely important, as balancing an individual’s system, by developing weaknesses through carefully planned activities, games and interactive routines, means therapy results in an individual/ child accessing their most effective communicative potential.
A PROMPT therapist will therefore be working effectively within and across all three domains, from a motor perspective.
PROMPT Philosophy and Approach
Deborah Hayden, Speech and Language Therapist, is the mind behind PROMPT. She is a genius. She has revolutionised the working life of so many Speech and Language Therapists across the world, and in doing so has helped unlock the communication skills of many.
The PROMPT philosophy and approach is unique in its’ approach to Speech and Language Therapy because all decisions are guided by the ‘Conceptual Framework’, which is grounded in ‘Dynamic Systems Theory’. It is this framework that allows a clinician to provide a truly holistic, detailed assessment, and then go on to design effective, focused, and functional intervention packages.
PROMPT clinicians work dynamically to improve integration of speech, language and social skill, within an individual who as challenges in one or more of these areas, so that the individual can reach their full communicative potential.
For more information on the ‘Conceptual Framework’ please watch this video, or visit the PROMPT institute at: www.promptinstitute.com
PROMPT is an acronym standing for;
Prompts for Restructuring Oral Muscular Phonetic Targets.
A PROMPT clinician will be able to provide a detailed assessment of an individual’s motor-speech skills so as to identify where the individuals’ speech-motor system needs support, development or re-training.
In therapy the clinician will use the Technique to provide tactile-kinaesthetic support, (touch cues), to facilitate accurate and required movement of the jaw lips and tongue to make speech which will be targeted through sounds, functional words, phrases and sentences. The chosen targets will allow development of expressive language skills and increasingly effective social communication.

PROMPT Therapist Levels of Training
The PROMPT institute is committed to providing therapists a high level of support and has organised a sequence of training in order to take therapists to the level at which they can become certified.
Level 1 trained: This Therapist has learnt the basics of how to use the technique and with practice will be able to provide effective input to support development of motor-speech skill. A clinician at this level is able to assess the motor-speech skill of a client.
Level 2 Bridging Trained: Clinicians who have completed the Bridging class have started to apply the technique at a deeper level and can design more detailed intervention plans addressing the cognitive-linguistic and social – emotional domains.
Level 3 Certified Clinician: A certified clinician has committed to a high level of mentoring, completed a four month longitudinal study in order to demonstrate their competence in the use of the Approach System and Technique. They have also demonstrated that they have an excellent understanding of the relevant theory.
Level 4 Instructor Level. PROMPT instructors are the best trained PROMPT therapists in the world and they are also integral to the mentoring and certification process of other therapists.
Collectively there are approximately 60 instructors in the world and they collaborate to continuously develop their skills, continue with ongoing research and provide presentations and numerous conferences.

I contacted Justine about my 2.5 year old after his nursery raised some concerns about his mouth regularly being open and excess dribbling. Justine took the time to thoroughly understand the issue and the flags that nursery had identified as well as a detailed background of my son's life to date. She then provided us with some very useful advice but concluded we wouldn't benefit from treatment at this stage. I really appreciated her friendly and pragmatic communication and felt reassured after speaking with her that I knew how to help my son. I appreciated the time she invested, especially given it didn't result in any specific work for her. Thank you!
Justine is an amazing therapist, my daughter has been lucky enough to see her in London weekly for Prompt therapy for the past 3 years. My daughters speech has improved so much as a result of her seeing Justine every week. I’m so grateful she gets to see Justine and can’t recommend her enough.
I would recommend working with Justine, she is very kind, very patient and has found the perfect way to make my child understand, thank you so much Justine.
